Carbon Footprint is All About Supply Chain

Thursday January 29th 2009 at 5pm [AEST]

Join us on Thursday January 29th at 5:00pm [AEST] for our Supply Chain Network Webinar on “Carbon Footprint is All About Supply Chain!”. Fraser Ironside, Global Business Development Director of Barloworld Optimus in the UK, will join us to present the following information and discuss some effective tools for incorporating carbon into your supply chain modelling functions:

Drivers behind Carbon measurement & carbon reduction

          Understanding Carbon Emissions & measurement

Why the focus on supply chain & transportation

The Carbon Reduction Roadmap for companies

‘Designing’ Carbon Emissions out of supply chain using Network Design

Case Studies: CEVA, Wartsila & a bulk chemical company

Recent customer success story:

CEVA Logistics in the Netherlands identified a 33% cost saving and a 9% saving in carbon emissions for a European supply chain customer through optimising their logistics network using CAST-CO2.

The company operates 9 warehouses across Europe with an annual logistics spend in excess of 30 million Euros per annum.

The savings were achieved by a modal shift from air to road through the better location of distribution sites to service European demand within the service lead times and a reduction in overall warehousing space through the centralisation of inventory.

 Benefits of the solution

·         An accurate measurement of carbon emissions and Supply chain costs. The baseline position is an accurate statement of the current emissions and supply chain costs using an established methodology and international carbon standards.

·         Understanding of the key drivers of cost and carbon emissions in your supply chain. Optimisation of the supply chain in terms of service levels, supply chain costs and carbon emissions leading to savings of 5-10% in supply chain cost, 25% in inventory and up to 30% in carbon emissions.

·         Assistance with implementing the recommendations through the provision of transport management solutions, inventory planning systems and integrated logistics planning and management services.

Using these tools, companies rapidly realise that the supply chain generates roughly 75% of the total carbon footprint. So it's important to be able to flexibly and rapidly model a variety of supply chain network scenarios to show the total supply chain cost and simultaneously have the impact of the carbon footprint provided.
